Bloody Urine? Probably Pigmented Urine

It's the end of autumn and now beginning to become winter! Pigmented urine may happen during the beginning of the fall season, so this post is late for any warnings. But, I thought this would be useful anyways because I was panicking the rabbits peeing "blood" which was really not blood.

So, don't get scared if your bunny appears to have some coloured urine.
  • While on antibiotics
  • At the first cold snap in the fall
  • After eating fir leaves
  • After eating carrots, spinach or other veggies containing beta carotene
However, in the case of your rabbit being a doe (female) and isn't spayed, them you shall go to the doctor immediately. I'm no vet, but all I know is that your rabbit isn't in a very good condition.

Pigmented urine may return to a regular yellow or light yellow within a few days to a few weeks. Although there is nothing wrong with the pigmented urine for it means that they are eating good lettuce and have a lot of calcium.

Lastly, remember that pigmented urine is not a bad sign and is often mistaken as "bloody urine". However, if your bunny is a lady and is not spayed, then please make sure she is checked by your animal doctor asap. Also, you may always hear this, but look out for unusual behavior.

Happy Holidays!! :)
